Hybrid Master of Divinity FAQ

General questions and logistics

The minimum time in which you’ll be able to complete the MDiv will be three years, with a maximum limit of six years.

The hybrid MDiv requires five residency periods, which includes required attendance at New Student Orientation in the fall of your first year. The other four residency periods can be completed at your discretion during short, pre-semester intensives in Atlanta and travel seminars (for example, August- and May-term sessions), as well as, in-person classes during regular semesters.

The hybrid plan provides increased flexibility for your life, but it also requires flexibility on your part. Balancing full-time work and full-time school is rigorous, and we generally advise against it. Most of our courses, including those online, include real-time instruction (synchronous) and are offered during daytime hours, Eastern Time. If your schedule does not allow for full-time study, we encourage you to consider pursuing your degree part-time and incorporating summer courses. By adjusting your schedule, you can still move toward completing your degree while managing your professional and personal commitments.

Most classes are generally worth three credit hours. Students can take up to 12 credit hours per semester (four classes) and 24 credit hours per academic year (eight classes). You must be enrolled in at least six credit hours per semester to receive your Candler scholarship.

Yes, you may switch from the hybrid plan to the residential plan, but you must do so before New Student Orientation and the start of the semester. Email your Admissions Advisor for more information.
