On April 1, 2025, the Candler Black Church Studies hosted the 2025 Anna Julia Cooper Lecture. Dr. Oluwatomisin Oredein, Assistant Professor in Black Religious Traditions, Constructive Theology & Ethics at Brite Divinity School presents her lecture, “Can African Women Be Womanists?” where she discusses the nomenclative evolution of the term ‘Black’ for African and African American women and how that influences the perspectives and goals of womanist theology.
