Plans are in the works for several events this spring for the Candler community to acknowledge and thank Mary Lee Hardin Willard Dean Jan Love for her exemplary leadership of the school across nearly two decades. Love, who has served as Candler’s dean since January of 2007, will step down from the position this summer.

All are invited to join us in recognizing Dean Love at the following events:

March 27-28: Emory’s Annual Day of Giving
During Emory’s Day of Giving, honor Dean Love with a gift to the newly-established Jan Love Endowed Scholarship, which will make a Candler education more financially accessible to more people. In person and online.

April 10, 4:00 p.m.: “For the Church in the World: The Legacies of Dean Jan Love”
This lecture-style event will recognize Love’s faithful leadership in theological education and in the global ecumenical movement, featuring remarks from the Rev. Dr. Daniel Aleshire, retired executive director of The Association of Theological Schools in the United States and Canada (ATS), and Bishop Dr. Margot Kaessmann, public theologian, global ecumenist, and former presiding bishop of the Evangelical Church in Germany. A reception will follow the program. In person and online.

April 20, 6:00 p.m.: Spring Concert in Cannon Chapel featuring the Candler Singers and Voices of Imani, with a special presentation honoring Dean Love.

April 25, 11:05 a.m.: The Candler community will hold its annual Sending Forth Service in Cannon Chapel and online, which will include a special presentation to Dean Love.

In addition, a special campaign through Emory University‘s Momentum crowdfunding platform is underway to honor Love, with gifts of any size supporting the Jan Love Scholarship Endowment to pave the way for more students to serve as faithful and creative leaders for the church’s ministries throughout the world. Give here by April 19.

May 11, 9:00 a.m.: Candler will celebrate the Class of 2024 with a graduate recognition ceremony in Glenn Memorial United Methodist Church, where Love will give her final public address as dean. Watch the livestream here.
