Geordan Hammond to Join Faculty in Methodist Studies

Geordan Hammond portrait outdoorsDean Jan Love has announced that Geordan Hammond will join the Candler faculty in the fall of 2024 as Associate Professor of Methodist and Wesleyan Studies. Hammond comes to Candler from his posts as director of the Manchester Wesley Research Centre, senior lecturer in church history and Wesley studies, and director of research at Nazarene Theological College in Manchester, England.   

Hammond earned his MA in theology and church history from Fuller Theological Seminary and his PhD in church history and theology with a focus on early Methodism from the University of Manchester.  

His areas of expertise include church history and theology with a focus on Britain and America in the early modern and modern periods, and the history and theology of the Methodist and Wesleyan traditions—particularly John and Charles Wesley and early proponents of Methodism; the Evangelical Revivals in their international context; and the Methodist, Wesleyan, Holiness, and wider Evangelical traditions up to the present day.   

The author of the monograph John Wesley in America: Restoring Primitive Christianity (Oxford University Press, 2014), Hammond has also co-edited numerous volumes. In addition, he serves as co-editor of the Penn State University Press book series Studies in the Holiness and Pentecostal Movements.
