Dr. E. Brooks Holifield has written books on seventeenth-century Puritanism, the antebellum South, religion and psychology in America, health and medicine in the Methodist traditions, and the cultural history of early colonial America. In 2009, Holifield was recognized as Outstanding Theological Educator by the Association of Theological Schools. At Emory University’s Commencement Exercises in May of 2010, he received the University Scholar-Teacher Award, selected by Emory faculty on behalf of The United Methodist Church Board of Higher Education and Ministry. In 2011, Holifield was named a fellow of the American Academy of Arts & Sciences. Also a senior fellow at the Center for the Study of Law and Religion at Emory, his current research focuses on patterns of change in American religious history. He is an ordained elder in The United Methodist Church.
