Candler Foundry Scholar-in-Residence Elizabeth “Ebby” Arnold and Associate Professor of Latinx Communities Jonathan Calvillo both took part in May’s 2026 joint annual conference of the Baptist History and Heritage Society, the National Association of Baptist Professors of Religion and the Association of Ministry Guidance Professionals in Smoke Rise, Georgia. The conference’s theme was “The Church and Global Migration.”
Arnold participated in a panel discussion about the book The Bible in the Baptist Tradition.
Calvillo gave the presentation “Fresh Anointings in Times of Tribulation: Learning from the Theologies of Vulnerable Migrant Communities.”
Assistant Professor of Ethics Craig Ford took part in a panel discussion on Theology and LGBTQ Persons at the 2026 Outreach Conference at Georgetown University in June. Ford also offered a night prayer reflection during the conference.
In addition, Ford was recently interviewed for the Atlanta Voice article “Beyond The Invitation: The Long Road To LGBTQ+ Inclusion In The Church.”
Bandy Professor of Preaching Teresa L. Fry Brown served as the keynote speaker at the annual prayer breakfast sponsored by Ward AME Church in Los Angeles on July 11.
Associate Professor of Catholic Studies Susan Reynolds penned the essay “The Manosphere and a Church Against Extremes” for America Magazine (subscribers only).
