Assistant Professor of Theology and Africana Studies Amey Victoria Adkins-Jones was recently interviewed by CBS News for a story about the use of artificial intelligence in churches. 

Former Candler faculty member Michael Joseph Brown, president of Payne Theological Seminary, died on December 18. Brown taught New Testament at Candler from 1999 to 2011. 

Robert W. Woodruff Professor Emeritus of New Testament and Christian Origins  Luke Timothy Johnson was a guest on America: The Jesuit Review magazine’s podcast, “Hark! The stories behind our favorite Christmas carols.” 

James T. and Berta R. Laney Professor in Moral Leadership Robert M. Franklin Jr. was the featured speaker at Emory’s Oxford College MLK Celebration Service during Emory King Week on January 21. 

Bandy Professor of Preaching Teresa L. Fry Brown has been named to the list of 25 Most Effective Christian Biblical Preachers in the Black Preaching Tradition, released in December by the National Black Church Initiative. 

Almar H. Shatford Professor of New Testament Susan E. Hylen was featured on two episodes of the podcast “The Two Cities” based on her most recent books. The first episode covered women in the New Testament, followed by an episode on gender mobility in the New Testament world 

Former Candler faculty member Kwok Pui Lan interviewed Associate Professor of History of Religions and Interfaith Studies Deanna F. Womack on her podcast “Kwok ’n’ Roll” about Womack’s 2025 book Re-inventing Islam: Gender and the Protestant Roots of American Islamophobia (Oxford University Press). 

Associate Professor of Practical Theology and Spiritual Care Danielle Tumminio Hansen published the guest essay “What Should I Do with My Father’s Remains?” in the January 2 issue of The New York Times. 

Associate Dean of Worship and Spiritual Formation Khalia J. Williams has penned a tribute to former Candler faculty member James Abbington, who died in September.
