Associate Professor of Historical Theology and Christian Worship L. Edward Phillips has edited and updated the fourth edition of the well-known volume Introduction to Christian Worship (Abingdon Press) written by James F. White, who holds the Bard Thompson Chair of Liturgical Studies at Drew University.
This marks the first new edition of the book in more than two decades, and Phillips’ revisions emphasize the significant changes that have occurred in the ways people worship over that time span.
The updates feature the voices of experts and educators from new generations, and include fresh subject matter related to worship, such as the use of technology; denominational changes; pluralism and multiculturalism; arts; embodiment; and changes in the spaces and forms of worship, particularly related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
