Cameron
The Aquinas Center of Theology at Emory University’s Candler School of Theology has announced that Alice Cameron will serve as its next executive director, effective immediately. A member of The Aquinas Center’s staff since 2016, Cameron most recently served for three years as director of operations. She also has twice held the post of interim executive director.
Founded in the Dominican tradition, The Aquinas Center has served Emory University and the greater Atlanta community for 39 years. The center’s mission is to foster conversations for the common good in the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Atlanta and beyond, by offering Catholic scholarly programming that invites ecumenical dialogue.
“I’m enthusiastic about the opportunity to contribute and continue the good work of the Aquinas Center,” Cameron says. “In my nine years here, I have been thrilled to be a part of our community, our rich history, and our dynamic programs. As we look ahead to our fortieth anniversary of serving the Archdiocese of Atlanta and Emory University, I am encouraged by our unique ability to address theological issues of our time in a manner that offers hope, deepens dialogue and builds connection.”
In 2022, Cameron graduated cum laude from the University of Notre Dame with a master’s degree in nonprofit administration. At The Aquinas Center she has worked to deepen dialogical engagement of the Catholic-Orthodox programs, designing effective program evaluation of annual offerings, expanding development work and advancing the center’s strategic goals and initiatives.
Cameron will continue to work with Assistant Director Tina Guyden 25T and Catholic-Orthodox Coordinator Deacon Bob Hauert.
In addition to the unanimous vote on Cameron’s appointment, the Aquinas Center board of directors also approved the creation of a new doctorate-level position designed to work in tandem with the executive director.
“This decision will enable the Aquinas Center to creatively move into the future,” says Sister Mary Priniski, chair of the board of directors. “We believe that the Center will be better served by enabling the executive director to focus on the mission and administering our programming more effectively while opening up new possibilities with this new staff position.”
The board of directors said in a statement that it is deeply grateful to Cameron, who will be the Aquinas Center’s eighth executive director. “Alice’s dedication to the Aquinas Center’s mission, partners and community is unmatched,” says past board chair and Candler Scholar-in-Residence Marie Marquardt. “We have always been blessed to have her on the team, and we are delighted that she is willing to lead us moving forward. She is an excellent, seamless choice for this role.”
Priniski agrees. “We can now move into the future knowing that the leadership of the Aquinas Center is in very capable hands.”
