About the Site

Campbell-Stone Apartments provides affordable housing apartments for older adults, with two locations in Buckhead (north of Midtown Atlanta) and Sandy Springs (20 miles north of Emory).

Sponsored by the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Georgia, Campbell-Stone is made up of two apartment complexes for older adults with an emphasis on affordable housing. Persons of all faiths and ethnicities are welcome. While the Buckhead area is often perceived as an affluent neighborhood, the 345-room apartment complex located in Buckhead has a heavy emphasis on affordable housing. The Sandy Springs apartment complex has 190 apartments, including one floor of Personal Care. The average age of residents at the two complexes is 79.

Site Mission

The Campbell-Stone retirement communities serve as advocates for older adults by providing housing, services, education, and involvement in the community-at-large. We maintain an environment that enhances quality of life, encourages personal development, and promotes mutual respect for all participants, staff, and other constituents.

Faculty

Dr. Andrew J. and Georgia L. Ekonomou Distinguished Associate Professor of Patristic Theology Anthony Briggman  will be the faculty co-leader of the spring 2027 integrative seminar for Campbell-Stone Apartments students.

Teaching and Site Supervisor

Rev. Donna Gunter recently accepted the position of Director of Chaplain Ministries at Campbell Stone Senior Living, where she provides spiritual care to residents, families, and staff while fostering a vibrant faith community. She also serves as an Associate Minister at Ray of Hope Christian Church (DOC) in Decatur, Georgia, on the Pastoral Care Team and is the lead facilitator of the church’s GriefShare Grief Support Ministry. Before joining Campbell Stone, Rev. Gunter served 15 years as a Hospice Chaplain with Amedisys Hospice until 2026 and 23 years with the Georgia DHR/DFCS, in the Economic Support Division. Her final position was as the TANF Unit Chief. Rev. Gunter earned a BA in Psychology from Duke University and a MDiv from the Interdenominational Theological Center. Rev. Gunter is committed to cultivating hope, nurturing faith, and equipping others for compassionate ministry

Con Ed I Student Requirements for Campbell-Stone Apartments

Site work at Campbell-Stone Apartments will be in person and may include weekend hours, services such as Sunday Vespers, as well as some community events.

Students will choose one of the two site locations and arrange schedules in coordination with the supervisor. Students will work to develop spiritual care and community programming for residents, including pastoral care, worship opportunities, and group activities. Students will work mostly in person with residents at the two sites and may have an opportunity to help develop digital and remote spiritual care programming for our in-house television network.

Out of the 600 residents of the apartments, each student is assigned a “parish” of approximately 60 persons. Students meet the residents one-on-one throughout the year. Small group leadership is also a possibility. In the second semester, students have leadership in one worship setting and visit “parishioners” if they are in the hospital or a rehabilitation center. The site allows students to do their visitation on a fairly flexible schedule. There are opportunities for students desiring additional worship leadership.

Interested students may have the opportunity to work with residents who speak Korean, Spanish, Russian, Chinese, and a variety of other languages.

• Con Ed I at Campbell-Stone also includes a fall semester on-site reflection group, led by Rev. Betty Brewer Calvert, and a spring semester integrative seminar.
• Students who enroll in Campbell-Stone Apartments as their Con Ed I selection are strongly encouraged to also enroll in the Intro to Pastoral Care course during their first academic year.

Additional Requirements & Accessibility

This site is accessible to those with mobility issues. A COVID-19 vaccine is no longer required for students serving at this site however it is strongly recommended. Although not required, students are strongly encouraged to remain up-to-date on vaccinations and receive an annual flu shot.
