Candler School of Theology will open the 2024-2025 academic year with a fall convocation service on Thursday, August 29, at 11:05 a.m. EDT in Cannon Chapel.
Two faculty members will be officially installed in chaired professorships: Jonathan Strom as Mary Lee Hardin Willard Dean, and Anthony A. Briggman as the inaugural Dr. Andrew J. and Georgia L. Ekonomou Distinguished Associate Professor of Patristic Theology.
Strom will give the convocation address in his new role as dean of Candler. A member of the Candler faculty since 1997, Strom is a professor of church history and has served as director of international initiatives for several years. He was appointed associate dean of faculty and academic affairs in 2015 and promoted to senior associate dean of faculty and academic affairs in 2019, a role he held until 2022.
