The Course of Study School educates and trains local pastors in The United Methodist Church. To be admitted, students must be certified candidates for ordained ministry, have completed the requirements for license as a local pastor, have been tested in language skills proficiency through a process determined by the annual conference, and received endorsement of the annual conference Board of Ordained Ministry.
The Course of Study School at Emory is sponsored by The United Methodist Church, the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry, the Southeastern Jurisdictional Administrative Council, and Candler School of Theology. For further information email Amy Walker, Associate Director, Methodist Studies, or call (404) 727-4587.
Emory’s United Methodist Course of Study holds classes in multiple locations, including online. Choose what works best for you.
Work that is not received by the deadline will receive a grade deduction of 1/3 letter-grade per day it is late. For example: If your “A” assignment is one day late, it will drop to an A-. If it’s two days late, it will drop to a B+ and so on.
Plagiarism is a combination of stealing and lying. Emory Course of Study uses plagiarism-detection software on every paper you turn in. If you are caught plagiarizing, you will receive academic consequences and your district and annual conference will be notified.
Participation is not merely being physically in attendance. Emory COS expects you to:
You should set aside time and space for your Zoom class just like you would if you were physically coming to campus to sit in a classroom. It is distracting to your fellow students and disrespectful to your teacher if you are obviously trying to do other things while class is going on.
If you do not adhere to this policy, please know that you will be placed in the Zoom Waiting Room until you can get to an appropriate place to participate in class. If you do not, you will be removed from the class and be counted absent.
