The Rev. Dr. S. Ellen Shepard is no stranger to the Women, Theology, and Ministry Program, having served as acting director during Dr. Karen Scheib’s sabbatical this past academic year. She has been an adjunct faculty member at Candler in the areas of church leadership and administration and vocational discernment, and has taught in Candler’s Course of Study program. Shepard brings to Candler decades of ministerial experience in United Methodist Churches, and most recently the United Methodist Children’s Home, where she developed and directed a religious life program for children, teens and families.

Her current research includes vocational discernment, women’s studies, Christian spirituality and women’s advocacy. Shepard has written two books and co-authored a third, and recently completed a series of devotions for Reflections (Smyth & Helwys), as well as numerous articles and curriculum for The United Methodist Publishing House.

An ordained elder in the United Methodist Church, she is the senior pastor at Stone Mountain First United Methodist Church, a multi-racial, multi-cultural and welcoming community.
