Six Candler alumni were selected as grant recipients of the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry’s Young Clergy Initiative: The Rev. Darin Arntson 14T, The Rev. Stephen Cheyney 19T, The Rev. Chris McAlilly 10T, The Rev. Michael Ratliff 86T, The Rev. Todd Salmi 12T, and The Rev. Blair Trygstad Stowe 15T. These grants are awarded annually to programs focused on increasing the number of young clergy in The United Methodist Church by helping young people listen for, discern and respond to God’s call to ordained ministry.

The Rev. Ivan Garth Corbin 86T has a new appointment as pastor of Beach United Methodist Church in Fort Myers Beach, Florida.

The Rev. Joy Gallmon 03T is now pastor at St. Mark AME Church in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Mr. Lorenzo Harmon 18T has been selected by Georgia Governor Nathan Deal for the Woodrow Wilson Teaching Fellowship. The award comes with funding to complete a specially designed Master’s degree program based on a year-long classroom experience. In exchange, recipients commit to teach in a high-need urban or rural school for three years.

Mr. Clayton Harrington 17T is the new Campus Missioner at the University of Georgia. He is excited about the potential of Christian community, worship, and service to empower young adults of UGA.

The Rev. Leslie Houseworth-Fields 10T has been appointed to St. Mark’s United Methodist Church in Montclair, New Jersey. She is the first woman to lead the congregation.

Bishop Janice Riggle Huie 89T has been named as the newest member of the board of the Joe Barnhart Foundation. The Foundation is dedicated to the development and expansion of educational and cultural opportunities for the people of Beeville, Texas, particularly children.

Ms. Amanda Parris 18L 18T received the 2018 Eliza Ellison Prize for Leadership in Law and Religion from Emory University’s Center for the Study of Law and Religion. The prize is awarded to a graduate who has shown special initiative in leading law and religion studies within and beyond the classroom. Parris is pursuing a career as a legal activist and has focused on law and religion issues, particularly issues facing religious minorities. She has also worked in race and voting rights, indigent criminal defense, and immigrants' rights.

The Rev. Dr. Dorothy Sanders Wells 18T has been named chair of the board of directors of Metropolitan Interfaith Association (MIFA) in Memphis, Tennessee, an organization that has been serving seniors and families in the MidSouth for 50 years. Additionally, Dorothy’s article, "Founding 'Truths' Still Not Evident to All," was published in The Commercial Appeal.

Ms. Stephanie Moffitt 18T, Mr. Jake DeBoer 18T, Ms. Natalie Faria-Campbell 18T, Mr. Ian Campbell 18T, and Dr. Sarah Bogue 16G, head of research and access services at Pitts Theology Library, have founded the Post-Seminary Project (PSP), a space for seminary graduates to stay connected and keep learning together following commencement. In Memoriam

The Rev. Dr. Russell Irvin Bean Sr. 84T passed away on August 3, 2018.

The Rev. Andrew Jackson “Jack” Brown Jr. 62T died December 27, 2016. From 1958 to 2006, Rev. Brown served more than a dozen congregations in the Holston Conference of The United Methodist Church, including Macedonia, Haven Chapel, Church Street and Bell’s Campground.

Dr. Robert Gordon Garrigues 67T died July 18, 2018 in Gainesville, Florida.

The Rev. David E. Hudson 65T passed away August 3, 2018. Rev. Hudson spent his entire career serving churches in the South Georgia Conference of The United Methodist Church.

The Rev. Jerry Turner Lott 80T passed away on August 10, 2018, in Statesboro, Georgia. Jerry ministered for 34 years in the South Georgia Conference of The United Methodist Church.

The Rev. David A. Robb 58T passed away December 30, 2016.
