Class Notes

The Rev. Dr. William E. Flippin, Sr. 82T spoke at Tuskegee University’s 2019 Baccalaureate Service on Friday, May 10.

Ms. Rachelle Green 14T 22G has been appointed as assistant professor of practical theology and religious education by Fordham University’s Graduate School of Religion and Religious Education, effective fall 2019.

Ms. Tricia Hersey 17T and the Atlanta Nap Ministry were featured in Atlanta Magazine on April 29, 2019.

Ms. Kristi Painter 18T was featured in a recent article about her time as a Global Mission Fellow in Philadelphia, PA. She also spoke at the recent Bicentennial Conference sponsored by Global Ministries and Candler School of Theology in April 2019.

Mr. William Reilly 19T will begin this summer as Senior Pastor of Faith Baptist Church in Georgetown, KY.

The Rev. Dr. Adam Roberts 01T 17T, chaplain and director of spiritual life at LaGrange College, was presented the Francis Asbury Award during the college’s baccalaureate service on May 17, 2019.

Mr. Won Chul Shin 13T 22G has been called as the Visiting Professor of Ethics and Theology and Louisville Institute Postdoctoral Fellow at Columbia Theological Seminary, effective August 26, 2019.


In Memoriam

The Rev. Hugh Bickley 65T died May 2, 2019. Bickley's career began in the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Naval Reserve. After being called into the ministry, he served in the U.S. Army as a chaplain for 32 years, and continued as a pastor in the South Carolina Conference of The United Methodist Church for 28 years after his retirement from the military.

The Rev. Norton Campbell, Jr. 56T died May 16, 2019. Following graduation from Candler, Campbell was ordained as a minister in The United Methodist Church, and began serving pastoral appointments in the North Georgia Annual Conference. He served numerous congregations throughout his career, and helped initiate the creation of an affordable senior living facility in East Atlanta, Brennan Towers.

The Rev. Dr. Billy Joe Cox 54T died on April 19, 2019. During his ministerial career, Cox served as a student pastor of churches in the mountains of eastern Kentucky and north Georgia, and for 45 years served as senior pastor of Methodist churches throughout Kentucky.

The Rev. Dr. Edward Lee Crump, Jr. 52T died May 24, 2019. Crump served as a pastor and district superintendent in the Memphis and Tennessee Annual Conferences from 1953 to 1997. Known to many as the "Traveling Pastor," he led more than 80 pilgrimages to the Holy Land and around the world, including more than 50 Holy Land tours and 11 tours retracing the journeys of Paul.

The Rev. Ben Cunningham 54T died April 27, 2019. Throughout his career, Cunningham served numerous congregations in the South Carolina Conference of The United Methodist Church, and also served as District Superintendent of the Florence District before retiring in 1995.

The Rev. Robert L. Jenkins 60T died on May 3, 2019. All of Jenkins’ ministry was done in the Florida Conference of The United Methodist Church, where he served churches in Jacksonville, Merritt Island, DeLand, Tampa and Fort Lauderdale.

Dr. Prentiss M. Gordon, Sr. 55T 83T died May 6, 2019. Gordon was ordained as an Elder in Full Connection with the North Mississippi Conference of The United Methodist Church in June of 1955, which initiated an active course of local church ministry that spanned more than 40 years.

The Rev. Stanley Harold McDaniel 88T died May 2, 2019. McDaniel was a retired United Methodist minister serving congregations in the Memphis Conference from Paducah, KY to Memphis, TN for 36 years.

The Rev. Dr. William "Neal" McDermott 84T died May 9, 2019. In 1954, Neal joined St. Albert the Great Province; he would join the Province of St. Martin de Porres when it was established in 1979. In 1960, he was ordained to the Diaconate and on June 3, 1961, he was ordained to the priesthood. He served in many teaching and leadership roles throughout the Southeast and Midwest.

The Rev. Dr. Wilton A. Moulder 53C 56T 77T died April 30, 2019. Moulder was ordained in the North Georgia Methodist Conference in 1954. He served St. Luke (Atlanta), St. Matthew (East Point), Druid Hills Associate (Atlanta), and Duluth. In 1969, he joined the United Methodist Children’s Home in Decatur as director of development, where he served for 26 years.

The Rev. Arthur F. Nembhard 92T died March 24, 2019. Nembhard was an ordained minister with the Assemblies of God (Springfield, Missouri), where he served as a minister and later also a chaplain from 1984 until his death. Over his 47 years of ministry, Nembhard and his wife Jasmin planted seven churches and pastored eight churches in Canada and the United States.

The Rev. Donald W. Sneller 66T died April 5, 2019. Sneller and his wife, Tallie, focused much of their career on inner city and civil rights work through The United Methodist Church around the country. He also served as pastor at Community UMC in Massapequa, NY until his retirement in 1986.

The Rev. Harold E. Walton 54T died April 23, 2019. Walton served as a United Methodist minister in the South Carolina Conference from 1953 to 1966 and in the Peninsula Conference from 1966 to 1991.

The Rev. Robert "Buck" Ward 63T died April 21, 2019. Ward pastored various churches in the North Georgia Methodist Conference until his retirement in 1990, after which he moved LaFayette, Georgia, where he took the LaFayette Circuit serving Mt. Carmel, Wesley Chapel and Trinity Churches.

Pastor Gregory Ryan Wolfe 73T died April 15, 2019. Wolfe served 40 years in six full-time appointments in the West Michigan Conference of The United Methodist Church, and six years part-time during his retirement.
