Class Notes

Several Candler alumni were selected by the Forum for Theological Exploration as 2018 Class of Doctoral Fellows to receive fellowships to support their doctoral work past the coursework stage: Ms. Whitney Bond 16T, Mr. Eunil David Cho 15T 23G, Mrs. Diana E. Rodriguez Click 14T 23G, Ms. Ericka Dunbar 13T, and Ms. Rachelle Renee Green 14T 22G.

The Rev. James Giddens Jr. 87T retired after 30 years as senior minister of Skidaway Island United Methodist Church in Savannah, Georgia.

Dr. John H. Green 66T 70T published the book Everybody’s Shadow is the Same Color. A manuscript of the book has been accepted into the Library of Congress.

Mr. Taylor Hammett 10T will be speaking at the Summer Speakers Series at Newnan Church of Christ on June 20, 2018. He will be speaking on the topic, “How Christ Transforms Churches and Communities: New Society.”

Ms. Kelsey Lewis 18T is the new pastor for youth and families at First Baptist Church of Decatur in Decatur, Georgia.

Ms. Lauren Shields 13T has published a new book titled, The Beauty Suit: How My Year of Religious Modesty Made Me a Better Feminist.

Mr. Jordan Stewart 17T was featured on an aijcast podcast on May 18. He spoke about using drama to teach empathy.

Ms. Anna Strickland 18T has been named associate pastor at First Christian Church of Decatur in Decatur, Georgia.

In Memoriam

Mr. Howard B. Albury 57T passed away on September 15, 2014.

The Rev. John W. Gibson 87T passed away August 12, 2013.

The Rev. James Sanders 75T passed away May 21, 2018. He served for 48 years under appointment of The North Georgia Conference of The United Methodist Church. After retiring in 1995, he served as interim at Leland Methodist Church in Mabelton and was on the staff at Grace United Methodist Church in Atlanta for 10 years as Minister of Pastoral Care.

The Rev. Harold D. Shaffer 68T passed away April 25, 2018. He was a retired United Methodist minister and a member of the Illinois Great Rivers Conference.

The Rev. Queon Paul Smith 63T passed away May 12, 2018. Queon served United Methodist churches for 45 years.
