soulen-new-book-rec.pngProfessor of Systematic Theology Kendall Soulen’s new book, Irrevocable: The Name of God and the Unity of the Christian Bible (Fortress Press, 2022), continues his career-long exploration of how Christianity becomes more authentic as it overcomes its legacy of anti-Judaism.

In Irrevocable, Soulen returns the Tetragrammaton, the traditionally unspoken proper name of God and the most holy of all God’s names in the Bible, to the center of Christian theology. He argues that neglecting the significance of this divine name has fostered Christianity’s supersessionist stance toward the Jewish people, and demonstrates the difference that God’s proper name makes for the Christian faith.
