Candler’s Laney Program in Moral Leadership will present a panel discussion on March 17 highlighting current projects in the greater Atlanta area that aim to commemorate and recognize the traumatic era of lynching. The event is free and open to the public. A reception will be held at 5:30 p.m., with the panel beginning at 6:00 p.m. in Room 252 of Candler’s Rita Anne Rollins Building.
“Remembrance and Repair: Confronting Legacies of Lynching in Metro Atlanta” will feature local leaders for a conversation about the significance of local remembrance initiatives in the ongoing work of truth, justice, and reconciliation. The panel will be moderated by William Flippin, Jr. 03T, assistant to the bishop and director of evangelical mission for the Southeastern Pennsylvania Synod, ELCA. Panelists will include:
- Dee Smith, DeKalb County Remembrance Project and DeKalb County NAACP
- Allison Bantimba, Fulton County Remembrance Coalition
- Trent Frank, Southern Truth and Reconciliation
- Schaune Griffin, DeKalb County Remembrance Project, Druid Hills working group
