Kemp's First Book Explores Legal Elements and Identity in Ezekiel

A new book by Assistant Professor of Hebrew Bible Joel Kemp has been published by Mohr Siebeck. It is his first monograph.
In Ezekiel, Law, and Judahite Identity: A Case for Identity in Ezekiel 1-33, Kemp investigates how the book of Ezekiel uses legal elements—including juridical diction, legal metaphors, and courtroom imagery—to advocate for the reconfiguration of a Judahite identity under Neo-Babylonian dominance.
Kemp worked as both an attorney and a minister before pursuing graduate theological studies. He joined the Candler faculty this fall.
