Candler presents the Bandy Preaching Conference on “Preaching a Relevant Word: Politics, Policy, and the People,” designed to assist pastors and congregants better understand contemporary socio-political issues and provide strategies to effectively address them through proclamation. Candler welcomes David H. Kelsey, Luther A. Weigle Professor Emeritus of Theology at Yale Divinity School, as the spring 2017 distinguished visiting professor in the Alonzo L. McDonald Family Chair on the Life and Teachings of Jesus and Their Impact on Culture. In this role, Kelsey will present this free public lecture. Symposium: “Asylum, Refuge, and Relocation: Multifaith and Community Responses to Global Migration”

The Leadership and Multifaith Program (LAMP), a partnership between Candler School of Theology and Georgia Tech, will host its third annual symposium, including a film screening and discussion with the directors of After Spring, a documentary on the Syrian refugee crisis produced by Jon Stewart. A series of afternoon workshops will offer resources on broader issues of immigration and refugee resettlement. Lunch will be provided at 1:00 p.m. for those who register online by Jan. 23. Annual Emory Sacred Harp Sing

Candler joins Emory University’s Center for the Study of Law and Religion to convene this conference sponsored by the McDonald Agape Foundation. The conference will be a scholarly celebration of the contributions of the Protestant Reformation to the transformation of theology, art, music, liturgy, church life, politics, economics, and the law. The celebration will include a Bach organ concert by Emory University Organist Timothy Albrecht and a presentation on Reformation archives by Pitts Theology Library’s M. Patrick Graham.
