Candler Hosts Methodist Missionary as Visiting Professor
Candler is hosting Alex Awad this semester as General Board of Global Ministries’ Scholar-in-Residence. A missionary of The United Methodist Church based in Jerusalem, Awad serves as dean of students and professor at Bethlehem Bible College. While at Candler, he is teaching a special course in ethics, “The Christian Zionist Challenge: An Exposure and a Biblical Response to Christian Zionism,” and speaking to groups on campus and in the Atlanta community.
“I’m trying to help people understand Christian Zionism – its roots, its challenges,” he says. “A lot of American Christians have great misunderstanding about what is happening in the Middle East. So I feel like my job is interpreting the situation, both on and off campus.”
Awad was born and grew up in Jerusalem. He earned a BA from Lee University in Tennessee, an MA in education from North Georgia College in Dahlonega, and an MA in missions and evangelism from Asbury Theological Seminary.
