Candler Reps to Help Select Emory's Next President
With the retirement of Emory University President James Wagner set for August 2016, the university last week announced its 14-member Presidential Selection Committee, including two with ties to Candler.
Carol A. Newsom, Charles Howard Candler Professor of Old Testament, has taught at Candler since 1980 and was the second woman on the faculty to earn tenure. The Rev. Dr. B. Michael Watson 74T is currently resident bishop serving the North Georgia Conference of The United Methodist Church, and chair of Candler’s board of advisors. During the school’s centennial celebration in 2014, Newsom and Watson were among 56 recipients of Candler’s Centennial Medal, recognizing extraordinary service to the school, the church, and society.
