Candler Faculty Billed as 'Great Preachers' in Glenn Series
Three faculty members from Candler are the featured speakers at a new “Great Preacher Series” at Glenn Memorial United Methodist Church on the campus of Emory University. The series runs the first three Sundays in February during the 11:00 a.m. worship service.
Associate Professor of Preaching and Ethics Ted A. Smith will preach on February 1, followed by Bishop-in-Residence Woodie White on February 8 and Bandy Professor of Preaching Thomas G. Long on February 15.
P. Alice Rogers, senior pastor of Glenn Memorial and also an associate professor in the practice of practical theology at Candler, hopes that the series will become an ongoing tradition that strengthens ties between the congregation and the university that houses it.
“Glenn has deep connections across Emory University through the membership of active and retired faculty and staff,” she says. “It is our hope that through the establishment of the Glenn Great Preacher Series, we will be able to collaborate with the Office of Spiritual Life and different schools across Emory to bring scholars from around the country to preach and lecture.”
“We are delighted to kick off the series with these great preachers from Candler.”
Glenn Memorial United Methodist Church is located at 1660 North Decatur Road, Atlanta, GA 30307.
