Nadim NassarSyrian-born priest Nadim Nassar will discuss the Christian experience in the Middle East on Wednesday, November 6 at 11:00 a.m. in room 250 of Candler School of Theology, in “Contemporary Challenges Facing Christians in the Middle East: A Focus on Syria.” The lecture is free and open to the public.

Part of Candler’s Dean’s Lecture series, Nassar’s lecture explores the life of today’s Christian in this ancient region now facing civil war and unrest.

Since 2011, Syria has been in the media forefront as its violent conflict and political uprising has resulted in displaced civilians and a death toll in the tens of thousands.

Nassar is an Anglican priest and founding executive director of Awareness Foundation, a United Kingdom-based organization that works to give Christians wider perspectives and deepen their faith in a diverse world through education initiatives.

He studied in Beirut during the Lebanese civil war and has served as senior chaplain to universities and colleges in London.

Awareness Foundation’s mission is to “enable Christians to live a generous and hospitable faith; emphasize the role their faith has in healing broken societies; facilitate positive interactions with neighbours and colleagues from other faiths; build up understanding between the East and the West; strengthen and sustain Christians in the Middle East.”

The Dean’s Lecture Series was established as a way to bring influential leaders of academy, history, culture and ministry into conversation with the community.
