Dean's Lecture Series to Explore Issues in Theological Education Abroad
Paulo Garcia, dean of the faculty of theology at Methodist University in Sao Paulo, Brazil and professor of New Testament will deliver his message “Challenges and Changes in Theological Education in Brazil” as part of the Dean’s Lecture Series on Wednesday, October 2. The lecture is free and open to the public.
Garcia is serving as a Luce Exchange Fellow through the Luce International Initiative. The program was established at Candler in 2011 as a way to educate ministerial leaders striving to answer evolving needs of the church to be a community resource for immigrants and refugees both at home and abroad. Faculty-student exchanges are at the core of the initiative, which is focused on shaping a curriculum that integrates international perspectives. It also is evaluating how international collaboration and reciprocal relationships can further theological education in North America and abroad.
Garcia’s research and teaching focuses on the historical Jesus, Judaism, Old World Mediterranean context and social and cultural anthropology. His lecture will explore the changing landscape of theological education in Brazil.
