Whitmore to Serve as Interim Director of Candler's Episcopal Studies Program
The Rt. Rev. Keith B. Whitmore, assistant bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Atlanta, will serve as interim director of Candler School of Theology’s Episcopal Studies program, beginning in the fall of 2012.
Whitmore has been involved with Candler’s Episcopal Studies program for several years, teaching a class on history and polity of the Episcopal Church and acting as celebrant in special Evensong services.
“Students express deep respect, appreciation and affection for Bishop Whitmore,” says Candler Dean Jan Love. “They hold him in high regard, as do ecclesial leaders in the Diocese of Atlanta. Candler faculty and administrators are delighted to have him as a new colleague and look forward to his leadership in Episcopal Studies.”
Bishop Whitmore is a Wisconsin native and a graduate of the University of Wisconsin, Madison, and Nashotah House Theological Seminary. A retired Army chaplain, he has served congregations in Wisconsin, Missouri and Kansas, where he was dean of Christ Cathedral in Salina. He was ordained bishop of Eau Claire (Wisconsin) in 1999 and became the Diocese of Atlanta’s assistant bishop in 2008.
Candler’s Episcopal Studies program is the oldest university-based program in the nation, with more than 200 student graduates since 1974.
