MailboxStill on the hunt for the perfect summer read? Check your mail later this month—Candler will be sending you a copy of Connection, our magazine for alumni and friends. Full of news about Candler, your favorite professors, your classmates, and current students, it’s perfect for these long summer days.

And because the lazy days of summer are so perfect for reading, this issue is all about our relationship with the written word. What does it mean to read in community? Can reading change the world? How do we read more deeply? What is Luke Timothy Johnson reading? We’ll explore all these questions, and more!

Making its return after a three-year hiatus, Connection will be published twice a year. It won’t replace the e-newsletter you receive each month; instead, it will delve into issues that interest people passionate about the church and its ministries in the world, serving as yet another way to foster community among Candler’s 7,500 alumni.

In order to create that community, we need your help. Please send us your class notes—we want to know the latest and greatest in your world. Not only will your news items make the class notes page shine (a popular feature in any alumni magazine), they just may be the inspiration for a story idea or two! You can submit your items for class notes at http://www.candler.emory.edu/submit-class-notes.

So save a space on your summer reading list, and keep an eye on your mailbox: A new way to make a connection with Candler will be there soon.
