Arun W. Jones, Dan and Lillian Hankey Associate Professor of World Evangelism, was elected president of the American Society of Missiology (ASM) for 2019-2020 at the group’s annual meeting in June.
The ASM is the ecumenical professional association for mission studies in North America. It includes more than 600 academicians, agency executives, and mission practitioners seeking to advance the study and practice of Christian missions.
As ASM president, Jones sets the theme and focus for the organization’s next annual meeting. He has announced that the theme for the 2020 annual meeting will be “Hybridity in Mission: Mixed and Multiple Identities in the Missio Dei,” in which scholars will explore internal and external complexity and diversity that exist within Christian mission. At the meeting, Jones and Professor of Theology and Ethics Noel Erskine will be among the scholars presenting lectures at the plenary sessions.
