Candler School of Theology will open the 2021-2022 academic year with a fall convocation service on Thursday, August 26, at 11:30 a.m. EDT. The event will take place in Cannon Chapel, with in-person attendance limited to 75 people from the Candler community. The service will also be live streamed on Facebook and the Candler website, and available to view afterwards on Vimeo.

Two faculty members will be officially installed in chaired professorships: Timothy P. Jackson as Bishop Mack B. and Rose Stokes Professor of Theological Ethics, and Ted A. Smith as Almar H. Shatford Professor of Preaching and Ethics.

James T. and Berta R. Laney Professor in Moral Leadership Robert M. Franklin, Jr. will give the convocation address based on Matthew 5:1-12, “Post-Modern Beatitudes: ‘Blessed Are the Flexible.’”
