    The Rev. Dr. S. Ellen Shepard is the director of Women, Theology and Ministry. She has taught in the area of practical theology, as an adjunct and now as faculty, since 2003, and has also taught in Candler’s Course of Study program. Shepard brings to Candler decades of ministerial experience in United Methodist Churches, and most recently as the senior pastor of Stone Mountain First United Methodist Church, a welcoming, multi-ethnic, multi-racial community.

    Her current research includes spiritual formation, vocational discernment for a sustained life in ministry, women’s studies, Christian spirituality and women’s advocacy. Shepard has written two books and co-authored a third, and recently completed a series of devotions for Reflections (Smyth & Helwys), as well as numerous articles and curriculum for The United Methodist Publishing House. Shepard currently serves on multiple committees in the North Georgia Conference including the committee on finance and administration, and is on the board of Project Transformation.
