Course in the Community: “Notes of Rest: Receiving Rest from Scripture and Black Music in Our Restless World”

November 6 @ 7:00 pm - 8:15 pm

$29

Taught by Julian Davis Reid, musician, speaker, writer and 2019 Candler graduate, “Notes of Rest” is an exploration of God’s gift of rest through the lens of Scripture and Black music. This class is for those who find themselves exhausted and for those who may not know that God has shared the gift of rest as part of God’s salvation. Julian wants to explore this question with you: Have you given yourself the permission that Jesus has given you to rest? Notes of Rest helps you respond to this question by exploring rest through the lens of Scripture and music, especially Black music. Black music makes beauty out of rest even amidst the restlessness of anti-black modernity. Julian has adapted this course from his in-person Notes of Rest experience that he offers at churches and seminaries throughout North America. No technical musical background or theological education is required—just a love of music and a desire to receive the gift of rest from the Holy Spirit.
