Catholic Studies Faculty Win Awards

Susan ReynoldsTony AlonsoAquinas Assistant Professor of Theology and Culture and Director of Catholic Studies Antonio Alonso and Assistant Professor of Catholic Studies Susan Reynolds have both earned recent honors from Catholic organizations for their work and scholarship.

The Association of Catholic Publishers’ (ACP) annual Excellence in Publishing Awards named Alonso the first place winner in the “Resources for Liturgy” category for his musical compilation Gloriosi: Music of the Pascal Triduum/Música del Triduo Pascual (GIA Publications, 2023), a collection of ancient chants and newly composed pieces for the liturgies of Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and the Easter VigilThe ACP noted that a record number of titles were submitted for consideration in this year’s competition.

Reynolds won the 2023 Catherine Mowry LaCugna Award, presented by the Catholic Theological Society of America (CTSA) to a new scholar for the best academic essay in the field of theology within the Roman Catholic tradition. Her essay, “‘I Will Surely Have You Deported’: Undocumenting Clergy Sexual Abuse in Immigrant Communities,” will be published in the journal Religion and American Culture later this year. Reynolds received the award during the CTSA’s annual convention earlier this month in Milwaukee.
