Candler School of Theology’s enduring commitment to providing a top-tier theological education has once again been strengthened with the most recent updates to the school’s financial aid offerings.
For the 2020-2021 academic year, Candler awarded $6.3 million in financial aid, with 98% of all students and 100% of Master of Divinity students receiving scholarship assistance—including three-year, full tuition scholarships for all certified candidates for ordination in The United Methodist Church. All MDiv, MTS, and Master of Religious Leadership (MRL) students who are enrolled part-time or more receive a scholarship covering at least 50% of tuition for the length of their program.
Now, Candler has expanded its commitment to 50% funding for its Master of Theology (ThM) degree program, effective Fall 2022. This latest development means Candler will cover at least half of tuition costs for all students admitted to the school’s MDiv, MTS, MRL, and ThM programs.
In addition to these automatic awards, Candler will also offer a limited number of 75% awards to outstanding MDiv applicants with stated interests in Catholic Studies, Chaplaincy, Episcopal Studies, Latino/a Ministries, and Non-Denominational Leadership.
Finally, exceptional applicants to the MRL will be considered for 75% awards to fund study in one of four available tracks: Justice, Peace, and Conflict Transformation (JPACT), Pastoral Care, Wesleyan Studies, and Ministries with Youth. Students pursuing tracks in JPACT, Wesleyan Studies, and Ministries with Youth will have rich online offerings for study beginning in fall 2022.
No additional application is needed to be considered for merit scholarships and aid. Prospective students who apply by the January 15 priority deadline for the fall of 2022 will receive top consideration.
