Commencement 2021

Last Updated 5/14/21

The 2021 Graduate Recognition Ceremony for Candler School of Theology will be held in person on Friday, May 14 from 3:00 – 4:30 PM, Room C3, Georgia World Congress Center, 285 Andrew Young International Blvd, NW, Atlanta, GA, 30313. This in-person ceremony has been designed with the safety of our graduates and guests as a top priority. Graduates who choose to participate in this ceremony will be allowed to bring up to six guests.

Each graduate must register via the personalized registration link which was emailed to all degree candidates. The deadline for registration and for uploading your photograph and name pronunciation is April 20.

Whether you will attend in person or not, please follow the directions on the registration form to create your graduate slide by confirming your name as you would like it to be read and providing your photograph. All graduates' slides will be included in the virtual ceremony page, the live stream, and the in-person ceremony.

When “in person” attendance is selected on the form, you will be given the option to order up to six guest tickets as well as your own ticket. Ordered tickets will be emailed to participants in May. Tickets will be scanned at the Georgia World Congress Center upon entering. Tickets can be scanned once only. Names and contact information for each guest will be entered into the registration system for contact tracing purposes and in order to distribute tickets. Each person, even a lap child or infant in arms, will be required to have a ticket to enter the ceremony site.

Additional family members and friends can celebrate your accomplishments by watching the ceremony live streamed. Watch the ceremonies.

Please note that guests who arrive without tickets will not be allowed to enter, and may risk not seeing the streaming of the ceremony as no location for overflow to watch streaming will be provided at the GWCC due to COVID restrictions.

Graduates and guests who will participate in person will be able to enter the Georgia World Congress Center for Candler's ceremony beginning at 2:00 p.m.

Please review COVID-19 protocols and be prepared to comply with screening, mask, and physical distancing requirements while at the GWCC:

Be sure to leave plenty of time for downtown traffic and parking. Georgia World Congress Center parking details and a parking registration link will be posted here when they become available. Parking will be in specified Georgia World Congress Center parking lots and will be provided at Emory's expense. Guests who are able should plan to walk from their parking location at the GWCC to the GWCC entrance. Emory shuttles will also be circulating between the parking area and the entrance for those who need assistance. An accessible drop-off point will also be available for guests with limited mobility and for ride-share (Uber, Lyft, etc.) customers. More details to follow.

After entering GWCC’s Room C3, Candler graduates and guests must proceed immediately to their seats and remain there. Additional check-in procedures for graduates may be required; if so, those details will be provided in advance both on this page and via email.

During the ceremony, graduates will be directed to cross the ramp at the front of the stage as their graduate slide is displayed and their name is read.

Professional photography will be provided during the ceremony. Guests may take photographs but must remain in their seats at all times. Live streaming and a recording of the live stream for later viewing will also be available.

Guests and graduates will be asked to exit GWCC immediately following the end of the ceremony. For public health reasons, no congregating or group photos will be allowed inside the building.
