Beginning Your Housing Search

Whether this is your first time searching for a home away from home, or you are an old pro at finding housing, here are some tips as you begin your move to Atlanta:

  1. Here at Candler, we have many resources available to help you plan your move to Atlanta. Check out our Affording Seminary Page for information about the cost of attendance, employment opportunities, and information about our financial literacy program, Faith and Finance.
  2. Once you’re admitted schedule some time to meet with Tammy Lane, Candler’s Associate Director of Financial Aid and Admissions. As part of the Faith and Finance Program, Tammy will meet with you individually to get to know you and discuss your three-year plan for financing seminary. These 30-minue meetings are called Money Talks and are hosted during the summer before and throughout your first semester. You will discuss areas according to you needs, whether it be external scholarships, employment, or budgeting, these talks are designed to help you make smart financial decisions and set you up for success as you begin your seminary journey.
  3. Be sure to register for upcoming housing information sessions! During these sessions, you will hear from current students about their housing search experience, learn more about housing opportunities, and have your questions answered by our housing coordinator. To sign up for an upcoming sessions, check out the Candler Connect calendar.
  4. Once you’ve found your new home, be sure to confirm your housing status via the Incoming Student Portal and be on the lookout for more information from Candler’s Office of Student Life.

Morningside Property available for rent, 1700 Lenox Road NE, Atlanta, GA 30306

For the last 25 years, Candler students have occupied a furnished in-law suite in my home, 1.8 miles from the school, in exchange for 10-15 hours a week of household chores and dog sitting. The in-law suite is currently available.

The student will be able to create their work schedule each semester based on their academic schedule. The apartment has a furnished bedroom and private bathroom with a shower, breakfast room, and a good-sized private kitchen. A total gym is shared with me, and access to washer and dryer. There is a 50.00 Monthly fee for Google fiber, and there is no fee for utilities. This is an excellent opportunity for a student who needs a more economical living arrangement. Most students over the years either rode their bikes to school or parked in a residential neighborhood close to school and took the Emory Bus to school. This has also been an excellent opportunity for me to take care of my dog when I travel and manage my home by taking care of all household chores. Chores do not include lawn maintenance since I have a lawn service. My most recent Home Manager had the position for three years while attending Candler. The ideal candidate has a car, no outside job can use the tools in a toolbox, experience with dogs, and most importantly, a Candler Student. The space is offered to 1 person that's a nonsmoker.
