One-on-One Appointments & Office Hours

Students can meet individually with the Director of Career Services one time each semester to help them put their individual puzzle pieces together. Students can also come to professional development Office Hours every Tuesday from 1:30 – 3:30 pm in the Office of Student Programming.

WHAT TO EXPECT IN ONE-ON-ONE APPOINTMENTS

Appointments last approximately 1 hour and will take place in Sarah’s office, Suite #318 in the Office of Student Programming (unless you note that you prefer a phone appointment when you schedule).

Appointments are designed to help you move forward on your vocational journey (wherever you are), but here are some things that students often address in their appointments:

  • What they’re doing here at Candler and how to figure that out;
  • Clarifying and exploring potential professional paths, including those outside of pastoral ministry;
  • How to effectively tell their vocational stories in job search documents and beyond;
  • How to get unstuck from choice paralysis or perfection paralysis in a job search;
  • Identifying the most effective job search strategy for their goals;
  • Interview preparation;
  • Networking and getting to know their potential professional neighborhood; and
  • How to design their experience at Candler to move them forward in their callings.

Since you only have one individual appointment each semester, you will want to be prepared.

At least 24 hours in advance of your appointment, please email Sarah (sarah.carlson@emory.edu) a copy of your resume/CV.

OFFICE HOURS 

Even if you’ve already had your one-on-one appointment, don’t worry, you can still ask your career questions during office hours.  Just come on in to the Office of Student Programming on Tuesdays, 1:30 – 3:30 pm.

In addition to regular office hours, the Director will also be available for vocational office hours (Vocation Station) several Wednesdays this Fall from 1 - 3pm. You can find the Director in RARB 3rd floor lobby on the following Wednesday afternoons: September 11, 18, 25 and October 2, 16, 30. Hope to see you there!
