“Entrusted by God: Towards an Ethic of Christian Entrustedness”

What does it mean for Christians to be entrusted by God—with the gospel, or leadership, or care for creation? How does being entrusted relate to being gifted or empowered? Christians often talk about trusting God and Christ, but the New Testament also testifies richly to the trust God puts in us. This lecture explores what, in New Testament writings, Christians are entrusted with, and what this means for our behavior and relationships in the contemporary world.

Morgan is Nancy Bissell Turpin Professor of Graeco-Roman History at the University of Oxford and fellow and tutor in Ancient History at Oriel College, Oxford. Her research interests include the history of ideas and mentality, cultural history, church history, the history of religions, ethics, theoretical historiography, the history of education and scholarship, and the history of gender and sexuality. She is the author of six books, most recently Being ‘In Christ’ in the Letters of Paul: Saved through Christ and in His Hands (Mohr Siebeck, 2020).
