book coverFive Candler faculty members have contributed to the new book Unity of the Church and Human Sexuality: Toward a Faithful United Methodist Witness, sponsored by the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry (GBHEM) and the Association of United Methodist Theological Schools (AUMTS) in support of the Commission on a Way Forward. The collection of essays publishes presentations made at the academic colloquy of the same name held at Candler in March 2017, with voices from across the theological spectrum examining human sexuality and the church both historically and constructively—including ideas about how to move The United Methodist Church forward.

Pieces by Mary Lee Hardin Willard Dean and Professor of Christianity and World Politics Jan Love, Associate Dean of Methodist Studies and Professor in the Practice of Ecclesiology and Church Leadership Anne Burkholder, Associate Professor of Worship and Liturgical Theology L. Edward Phillips, Dean Emeritus and William R. Cannon Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Church History Russell E. Richey, Professor of Systematic Theology R. Kendall Soulen, and Assistant Professor of Wesleyan and Methodist Studies Kevin M. Watson are featured in the anthology.

A four-week study guide was also published after the colloquy, as a tool to help annual conferences and local churches empower conversations around church unity and human sexuality.
