Fall Convocation Signals Start of New Year
Candler School of Theology will open the 2016-2017 academic year with fall convocation on Thursday, August 25 at 11:05 a.m. in Cannon Chapel.
During the service, Dean Jan Love and Emory University President-elect Claire Sterk will install Philip Lyndon Reynolds as Charles Howard Candler Professor of Medieval Christianity. The Charles Howard Candler professorships honor senior scholars who have shown outstanding teaching ability and productive scholarship in one or more fields of learning, and who have distinguished themselves through long and substantial service to Emory University and in furthering the cause of higher education. Reynolds joined the Candler faculty in 1992. His most recent book, How Marriage Became One of the Sacraments: The Sacramental Theology of Marriage from its Medieval Origins to the Council of Trent (Cambridge University Press), was published this summer.
Teresa L. Fry Brown, Bandy Professor of Preaching, will give the convocation address, “Surviving Justice Fatigue.”
