Did you know that many of the same Pitts Theology Library resources that you relied on as a student are still available to you as an alum? Pitts encourages Candler and Emory alumni to take advantage of special access to scholarly tools meant to enrich your ministries, including the recent addition of two sought-after electronic resources. Here’s how to connect with Pitts’ resources and staff both electronically and in person:

Borrowing Privileges: All Candler alumni are eligible for borrowing privileges at all Emory libraries. To set up an account, purchase an Emory Alumni Card for $10.00 at the B. Jones Center on campus, or for $12.00 through the Emory Alumni Association website. Take the card to any Emory University library to set up a borrowing account. This account will allow you to borrow up to 25 items for up to 28 days each with up to four renewals. Overdue and lost fines are due if materials are not returned on time. Check your account and renew materials online.

Electronic Resources: While most electronic resources licensed by Emory libraries are limited to walk-in users and remote access for current faculty, students, and staff, Pitts has recently extended licenses to two vital electronic resources to ensure availability for all Emory alumni:

-       The ATLA Religion Database, the leading index of literature published in the fields of theology and religious studies, which includes many full text articles, essays, and book reviews.

-       Oxford Biblical Studies Online, a collection of biblical texts and related reference works published by Oxford University Press, including The Oxford Annotated Bible, the Jewish publication Society Tanakh, The Oxford Encyclopedia of the Bible, and The Oxford Bible Atlas.

To gain access to these resources, alumni must register online with the Emory Alumni Association. This is a separate registration from attaining the Alumni Card. Register to use electronic resources here. Alumni are also able to access all of Emory’s licensed electronic resources in person by using designated computers in all Emory libraries, including Pitts.

Library Reference Support: Pitts’ reference librarians are available to work with Candler alumni on research projects and answer reference questions by phone, text, email, and online chat. Contact them here. They also provide open-access research guides to help on a range of topics related to the study of religion and theology, as well as research habits and general tools. Find the research guides here.
