Pitts Expanding Weekly Workshop Offerings
Pitts Theology Library is kicking off 2016 by broadening its workshop offerings for Candler students, with more sessions and new topics on the docket. Known as “Weekly Workshops,” the one-hour presentations by library staff members will be held on Tuesdays and Wednesdays on a variety of topics meant to help students succeed in the classroom, at academic conferences, and in the local church.
The library began hosting “Wednesday workshops” ten years ago, during the 2005-2006 academic year. This year’s addition of a Tuesday gathering means that the majority of the workshops will be held twice. Pitts Reference and Instruction Librarian Sarah Bogue says that the objective behind this change was to offer times when the most students are on campus, keeping in mind those who commute longer distances to school or who hold off-campus jobs.
“Tuesdays and Thursdays are the library’s highest traffic days, and we wanted to capitalize on that to make sure that students who are not here on Wednesdays also have the opportunity to participate in our workshops.”
Bogue notes that this spring’s diverse schedule also reflects the desire of the Pitts’ staff to more fully serve the Candler community. “Two sessions are specifically designed to assist students in either New Testament or Old Testament exegesis classes, while others reflect their ministerial, academic, and practical needs.”
While registration for Pitts’ Weekly Workshops is not required, it is encouraged. Wednesday workshops provide lunch for the first twelve registrants who sign up one week in advance. Lunch attendees must confirm their registration the day before the workshop. Coffee is served at Tuesday workshops. Learn more and register for workshops.
