Inaugural Dean's Lecture to Explore Extraordinary Journey of Faith
Jong Chun Park, professor of systematic theology and president of Methodist Theological University in South Korea, will present the first lecture in the Dean’s Lecture Series of the centennial year with an address entitled “The Extraordinary Journey of Faithfulness” on Wednesday, September 3, at 11:00 a.m. in room 252 of Candler’s Rita Anne Rollins Building. Park has a long-standing connection to Emory and Candler. He received his MDiv from Candler in 1982 and his PhD from Emory’s Graduate Division of Religion in 1986. He was a visiting professor at Candler in 1999. Candler and Methodist Theological University are also connected through the Luce International Initiative.
Focusing his research on systematic and Wesleyan theology, Park has authored and contributed to six books, including Crawl with God, Dance in the Spirit! A Creative Formulation of Korean Theology of the Spirit and Wesleyan Perspectives on the New Creation. He served as chair of the World Methodist Council’s Theological Education Committee, and was a keynote speaker at the 2006 World Methodist Conference in Seoul. He also served as co-chair of the Oxford Institute of Methodist Theological Study.
Prior to becoming president of Methodist Theological Seminary, Park served as Dean of Student Affairs and Director of Academic Affairs at the school.
