'Food and Faith' the Topic du Jour at April 24 Webinar
Carol A. Newsom, Charles Howard Candler Professor of Old Testament and director of Emory’s Graduate Division of Religion, and Jennifer R. Ayres, assistant professor of religious education and director of Candler’s Religious Education program, are teaming up April 24 from 12:00–1:00 p.m. for “Food and Faith: Eating as a Spiritual Practice,” the semester’s final webinar in Candler’s Office Hours series. Register for the free webinar here.
Throughout the centuries Christians have thought carefully about food and faith, engaging in both feasts and fasting as a means of being mindful of God. Today many congregations are developing intentional practices with respect to food as part of a theology of creation care: organizing community gardens, embracing vegetarian meals, and supporting local farmers, to name a few. In this webinar, Newsom and Ayres will explore aspects of the biblical and theological basis for mindful eating.
Office Hours: Practical Ministry Webinars are free, one-hour online conversations with Candler faculty members that are designed to provide new tools for use in your work and ministry. Participants view a live presentation, ask questions, and engage in dialogue with faculty members. Registration for each webinar is required; once registered, participants will receive an email with information about how to join the webinar via the GoToWebinar platform.
If you can’t make it to the live session, you can watch the webinar at a later date on our website, http://candler.emory.edu/alumni/stay-connected/alumni-webinar.cfm.
