AventAdvent is a season of anticipation, as we await the coming of One whose reign will bring peace, justice and righteousness to the world. Candler is observing Advent with a series of community events, worship services and spiritual life activities to mark this period in the church year that historically has been a time for both serious reflection and joyful hope.

"Keeping Advent can be hard for seminarians," says the Reverend Ellen Echols Purdum, assistant dean of Student Life and Spiritual Formation. "Just when we are invited to slow down, light a candle, enjoy silence and reflect on the great mystery of God coming among us, we simultaneously experience the frenzy and anxiety of assignments coming due at the close of the semester. In some ways, the timing could not be worse. On the other hand, taking even a few moments out of one's school day to sit in chapel, take a meditation break, or listen to quiet music can help us not only attend to Advent, but also be less stressed about work."
