barbara-lundbladThe Rev. Dr. Barbara K. Lundblad will preach at Emory University’s Candler School of Theology on Tuesday, October 4 at 11 a.m. in Cannon Chapel. Lundblad is an ordained minister of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and is currently the Joe R. Engle Professor of Preaching at Union Theological Seminary in New York City.

In 2007, Lundblad served as president of the Academy of Homiletics, and she has taught preaching at Yale Divinity School, Princeton Theological Seminary, Hebrew Union College, and the Association of Chicago Theological Schools. Lundblad has published sermons and articles in journals such as Lectionary Homiletics, Currents in Theology and Mission, Word and World, Journal of Preaching, and The Living Pulpit.

Lundblad’s appearance is sponsored by the student group Sacred Worth as part of Sacred Worth Week, which is held annually in support of the creation of safe communities for people of all sexual orientations and gender identities. In addition to preaching at the Service of the Word and Table in Cannon Chapel, Lundblad also will participate in a luncheon discussion at noon.

“Sacred Worth has long wanted to bring Rev. Lundblad to campus,” said Amaryah Armstrong, MTS ‘12. “Her work on the transformative power of preaching and the Bible resonates with Sacred Worth’s goals of providing education and advocacy to the Candler community that intersects our faith with LGBTQ issues. She exemplifies for us what our theological education is about – proclaiming the transformative power of the love of God in our lives, communities, and the world.”
