Applications due Jan. 15 for Candler's Top MDiv Scholarships

Leadership CandlerJan. 15 is the deadline to apply to attend Leadership Candler, a three-day event hosted by Candler School of Theology that puts prospective Master of Divinity students in the running for 30 prestigious scholarships, including awards that offer full tuition, fees, and an annual stipend of up to $10,000.

Those selected for the Feb. 27-March 1 event on the Emory University campus will interview with scholarship committees, visit classes, and talk with Candler's faculty. Leadership Candler also features interaction with current students and staff, group discussions, a campus tour, and time to explore Pitts Theology Library, one of North America's premier theology libraries.

“Leadership Candler gives distinguished MDiv candidates insight into life and formation at Candler,” says the Rev. Shonda R. Jones, Associate Dean of Admissions and Student Services. “It also helps them see that a top-tier theological education is affordable.”

Among the scholarships available through Leadership Candler:

To be selected for Leadership Candler, candidates must demonstrate confident and unselfish character combined with deep concern for others; intellectual achievement and impressive communication skills; significant leadership and creativity in school, church, or community; and clear potential for enriching the lives of their seminary peers as well as their faith communities.

 “Leadership Candler was a significant factor in my decision to attend Candler School of Theology,” said Brandon Maxwell (MDiv ’12). “I was able to meet future colleagues, establish relationships with faculty and staff, and immerse myself in the spiritual and academic life of the community. Furthermore, I received the financial support needed to freely explore my purpose and call.”

To apply to attend Leadership Candler, submit the Leadership Candler application and essay, as well as an application for admission to the MDiv program and all supporting documents, no later than Jan. 15, 2011.
