During Advent week, November 29-December 3, the Candler Social Concerns Network is collecting shoes to send to residents of La Gonave, Haiti, in time for Christmas. The project is a collaborative effort sponsored by the Social Concerns Network, the Religion and Public Health Collaborative, the Office of Worship, Covenant Presbyterian Church of Atlanta, and the Candler Office of Contextual Education.
Members of the Candler community and local congregations are being asked to bring their “gently worn” shoes to Cannon Chapel during Advent week to donate them.
“We welcome gifts of dress shoes for church, work shoes, comfortable walking shoes, and any shoes that are in good condition—from children to adult, any size,” says David Jenkins, director of Contextual Education II and an event organizer.
There will be special opportunities to give at chapel services that week and at the “SOLE FOOD” celebration lunch, at noon on Thursday, December 2, following the chapel service. Non-Candler guests are asked to please RSVP for the lunch by November 28; a $10 per person donation is requested to offset student-funded food costs.
