The First Annual Sophia Forum

The Sophia Forum is a new, C3-sponsored event at which master’s-level Candler students formally present academic work. This year’s event will feature ten presentations from Candler students. Look for the posters around Candler to see a full schedule of presenters and their diverse topics, which include original exegetical arguments, engagements with major theologians such as James Cone, Karl Barth, and Dietrich Bonhoeffer, contemporary theological analyses of the devaluation of black lives and imprisoned bodies, constructive theological interactions with ritual studies, theological aesthetics, and human rights discourse, and historical work on the United Methodist Church in global perspective. Stay for all ten presentations, or merely drop-in for as many as you can throughout the day!

The Sophia Forum will be held in the Pitts Theology Library Lecture Hall, CST 360, from 8:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m., with a lunch for presenters and registered guests from 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Although no registration is required to attend any of the presentation sessions, registration is required for lunch. Please register for lunch using the following form by Monday, March 23:
