Dr. Ellen Ott Marshall, Associate Professor of Christian Ethics and Conflict Transformation

Ellen Ott Marshall

Dr. Ellen Ott Marshall focuses on contemporary Christian ethics. She is particularly interested in issues of violence and peacebuilding, theologies of conflict transformation and nonviolence, and the dynamic relationship between faith, history and ethics. She has published three books and many essays. Marshall co-chairs the Religion, Social Conflict, and Peace Group of the American Academy of Religion and is co-convener for Emory’s Program in Religion, Conflict, and Peacebuilding. In 2009, she served as the lead writer for God's Renewed Creation, a pastoral letter and foundation document for the United Methodist Church Council of Bishops. Marshall has received three awards for teaching: the Eagle's Wings Excellence in Teaching Award (2011), Faculty Person of the Year (2013) and the Emory Williams Distinguished Teaching Award (2015).
