Admitted Student Checklist

Congratulations on your admission to Candler School of Theology! We are excited to welcome you to campus, and have laid out the following steps to help you connect, commit, and come to Candler.

Required to Register for Classes

Set Up Your Online Accounts

Setting up your online accounts—including OPUS and your campus email—are critical steps in the process of becoming a Candler student. You will need access to both in order to register for classes, pay your admission deposit, and receive important messages, among other things. Set up your online accounts.

Pay Your Deposit

Confirm your admission and intention to enroll by submitting the $100 deposit within three weeks of receiving your scholarship notification. Pay your deposit.

Complete a Criminal Background Check

A criminal background check is required of all students prior to enrollment. Complete a criminal background check.

Complete Haven Training, Parts 1 and 2

As part of Emory’s comprehensive interpersonal violence prevention program, all incoming students are required to complete Haven Training. Through the interactive online program, you will learn about preventing and responding to sexual assault, harassment, domestic violence, and stalking on college campuses. Complete Haven Training.

Complete Stewards of Children Training

All students who will work with children, youth, and other vulnerable populations through Contextual Education and ministerial internships must complete the Stewards of Children child sexual abuse prevention training. Complete Stewards of Children Training.

Submit Your Final Transcripts

If you were admitted to Candler prior to graduating from another academic program, you may need to submit an official copy of your final transcript. Learn more about transcript requirements.

Additional Considerations for International Students

If you are not a United States citizen, you may need to meet several additional requirements prior to enrolling at Candler, including applying for a student visa and taking an English language assessment during new student orientation. Required Before Classes Begin

Request Your EmoryCard

Save time during orientation by submitting a photo for your new EmoryCard, which you will need to access Pitts Theology Library and other buildings on campus. The photo you submit will also be included in the Candler Photo Directory, which is distributed to fellow classmates as well as faculty and staff at Candler. Set up your EmoryCard.

Set Up or Waive Student Health Insurance

All students at Emory University are required to have health insurance while enrolled. Learn more about the Emory University Student Health Insurance Plan, as well as how to decline this coverage if you prefer to keep your current insurance policy. Learn more about insurance requirements.

Submit Your Immunization Records

All students at Emory University are required to abide by the immunization guidelines established by the Centers for Disease Control and the American College Health Association. Submit your immunization records.

Register for Classes

Incoming students will begin the registration process in mid-July. Once you have completed each of the items listed above, you will be ready to register for classes.

Prepare for life at Candler and in the larger Atlanta community—begin making housing arrangements, learn more about your transportation options, and find schools and daycare for your children. Plan for your move.

Attend Candler's Required Orientation

Orientation is required of all new Candler students.
