For those not interested in seeking a degree or for those looking to strengthen their academic background in order to be admitted to a degree program, Candler offers the following opportunities for study.

Lifelong Learning

Candler promotes ongoing learning for ordained clergy, diaconal ministers, church professionals and laity of all denominations through a variety of continuing education programs on campus and at various locations. Learn more.

Course of Study

The Course of Study School educates and trains local pastors in The United Methodist Church. The five-year program is conducted in two, two-week modules each summer for part- and full-time pastors. Learn more.

Auditing

Through the non-student auditing program, laity and clergy may sit in on up to two courses per semester. Learn more.

Basic Graduate Theological Studies

All deacons are required to complete the Basic Graduate Theological Studies in the Christian Faith. These may be completed as part of a theological degree or in addition to a Masters Degree and/or certification in a specialized area of ministry. All theological education must be at a seminary on the University Senate approved list. Get more information from the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry.
