Crossroads UMC

Crossroads UMC

To make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.

The church is in the eastern suburbs of Atlanta just northeast of Conyers, on Highway 138. The church has an average of 160 people worshiping on Sunday morning. There are paid staff in ministries to nursery, children, youth and adults. The context is rural and the church has been transitioning to a more racially diverse, suburban church.

Unique Opportunities for Ministry

The student would be exposed to all the aspects of ministry required by Con Ed II over the course of their time at Crossroads UMC. In-house ministries work with all ages: children, youth, young adult and older adults. The church is particularly interested in developing a stronger missions team. The church can customize the student work to focus on areas they feel led to.

Meeting the Five Areas of Ministry

Administration: The student can immerse him or herself in the day-to-day scheduling of activities of the church. The student will be exposed to record keeping and other denominational methods used to track vitality in the church. Also the student will plan and organize a ministry activity on their own. This will walk him/her through advertising, implementing and follow-up activities needed to administer church ministries.

Liturgy (Worship and Preaching): The student will pick a Sunday and fully plan all aspects of worship liturgy. He/she will work with the music and administrative staff to make the vision of the worship service a reality. The student can be included in worship as needed. The student will pick a Sunday and preach a sermon. Accommodatations can be made for whatever Con Ed II requires as far as preaching opportunities.

Mission and Outreach: The church has monthly mission projects and the student can work with the committee to improve the existing projects.

Pastoral Calling and Congregational Care: There are opportunities to follow up with visitors (evangelism) and visit with hospital and shut-in members. The student can first shadow and then later take on more responsibility in these visits.

Teaching: Students have the opportunity to teach classes on a topic of their choice, which might include subjects they are studying at Candler. Classes are part of the Monday or Wednesday night series.
